CPR Instruction for Students

 Texas Education Code, Chapter 28. Section28.0023

Provides for CPR Instruction for Students as follows:

  • CPR instruction between grades 7-12, at least once prior to graduation
  • A school administrator may waive the requirement for a student with disability
  • Instruction must include:
    • 30 minute training developed by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Evidence based guidelines
    • Hands on practice to support cognitive learning
    • May use teachers or other school employees to provide the instruction
  • Full CPR Certification of students is not required 2.jpg
   CPR for Students

   Deployment Plan for Klein ISD
• Primary long term deployment will be at the Intermediate School Level 
     • 7th/8th  grade – PE, Athletics, Health class
• High Schools will decide the best way to deploy this content to students
    currently enrolled in high school. 
• Students with previous CPR certification can provide their counselor with a
   copy of their certification card. 
   The proof of certification must be issued between the student’s 7th and 12th
    grade years.
• New enrollees will be provided an opportunity to receive CPR instruction
