Ulrich Intermediate School
10103 Spring Cypress Road
Houston, Texas 77070
Principal: Kathy Brown
Ulrich Intermediate School is named for a German family which settled in the area of the school when they came to the United States in 1900. August and Marie Ulrich established their homestead across Spring-Cypress Road from the current Ulrich Intermediate School. Parts of the original home and the family acreage are still owned by the Ulrich family three generations later.
From the original family, three sons were born to August and Marie. They were Robert, who lived in Houston and had no children, Eric, who lived in Tomball and had four children and the youngest, Herman, who had three children.
Herman purchased property on the south side of Spring-Cypress Road in the 1940s to begin a dairy cattle business. Herman and his wife, Tillie Hildebrandt Ulrich, had three children who were raised on the original homestead. The three children are: Grace Ulrich Jones, who married Dr. James Jones (known as Doc Jones), had three children, Allen Ulrich, who never married and continues to live on the original homestead; and sister Gladys Ulrich Krueger, who married Lynn Krueger, now deceased, had four children.
Grace Ulrich Jones and her husband lived on the property that is now the site of Ulrich Intermediate School. The Jones Veterinary Clinic served the community for many years. A barn from the property of Dr. and Mrs. Jones has been moved to the Klein ISD historical site on the campus of Doerre Intermediate School. The barn will house tractors and large farm equipment.
