TEKS and Fitness Gram

State law/rules require all students enrolled in full-day prekindergarten, kindergarten or grades 1-5 in an elementary school setting to participate in physical activity for a minimum of either 30 minutes daily or 135 minutes weekly in a TEKS-based physical education class or a TEKS-based structured activity, including structured recess.

Students must participate in moderate or vigorous activity at least 30 minutes per day for at least four semesters during grades 6, 7 and 8. Districts with block scheduling are permitted to require students to participate in moderate or vigorous physical activity for at least 225 minutes during a two-week period.

High School Students (9-12) are required to earn one credit of physical education for graduation requirements. (HB 5)

Minutes of TEKS based physical activity required - Texas Education Code (TEC), Title 2, Subtitle F, Chapter 28, Subchapter A

FITNESSGRAM evaluates all students regardless of age, gender, or ability. Students are encouraged to be self-aware of health-related fitness and take responsibility by setting personal fitness goals. When students focus on the process of doing their personal best, a more positive lifelong impact is achieved.

You may request a copy of your child’s physical fitness assessment by contacting the physical education teacher and/or principal. By providing you and your child with this health-related fitness information, you can lead your child toward a healthy lifestyle. A healthy student is better prepared to learn and perform in all aspects of life. Klein ISD currently provides a report for each student tested. The results are sent home in a sealed envelope once the testing is completed.
