Group Health Insurance Coverage

Group health insurance coverage is provided through TRS-ActiveCare, the statewide public school employee health insurance program, and the Texas Schools Health Benefits Program (TSHBP), an alternative health insurance offered to employees and approved by the Board via the District of Innovation plan.

Eligible employees can elect to participate in the Cafeteria Plan (Section 125).  This plan enables eligible employees to pay certain insurance premiums on a pretax basis.  The list of Pre-Tax and Post-Tax Deductions can be found HERE.

Under IRS regulations, eligible employees must either accept or reject this benefit.

  • New Hires/Rehires - Must accept or reject this benefit during their first 30 days of employment.
  • All employees must accept or reject this benefit on an annual basis and during the specified time period (Open Enrollment period).
