When will the district be built out and how many students are projected at build-out?
Klein ISD is projected for built-out in about 15 years and will peak at about 65,000 students.
How does student growth impact the budget process for the school district?
Klein ISD continues to be a fast-growth district so opening new schools is a necessary reality. The district uses bonds to fund these new schools; however, the daily operation costs such as utilities, staffing, and operations are funded by the M&O budget. For example, Klein Cain High School, which opened in the fall of 2017, required an additional $7.5 million. Next year, Hofius Intermediate adds $3.2 million to the budget. A new elementary school typically has a recurring cost of $1.68 million. These additional costs recur each year.
