Pre-Kindergarten

In order for your child to meet eligibiltiy requirements to be enrolled in Pre-K, the child must be at least four years of age on or before September 1 of the current school year and meet at least one of the following eligibility requirements.  Once you have registered online or at your zoned campus, the campus will determine whether or not your child has met the eligibility requirements for our Pre-K program and will contact you with the results.

• unable to speak and comprehend the English language (Limited English Proficient – LEP)
• is educationally disadvantaged (eligible to participate in the national school lunch program... guidelines about NSLP eligibility can be found in sections 4 and 6 of the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Administrators Reference Manual) (Income based)
• is homeless, as defined by 42 USC, §11434a, regardless of the residence of the child, of either parent of the child, or of the child's guardian or other person having lawful control of the child (McKinney-Ventro Act)
• is the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority (Active Military)
• is or has ever been in the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (foster care) following an adversary hearing held as provided by Family Code §262.201 (Foster Care)
• is the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as: a peace officer under Texas Government Code §3106.002, a firefighter under Texas Government Code §3106.003 an emergency medical first responder under Texas Government Code §3106.004 (Star of Texas Parent)

Once you’ve determined that your student is eligible for Pre-K, you’ll begin the enrollment process by going to kleinisd.net/prek and click on the blue button for pre-enrollment.

Students will go to the campus that you’re zoned to attend based on home addresses. For more information and to find your attendance zone, view our current attendance zones. 

Klein ISD Pre-K program offers a full-day schedule for students who are 4 years old on or before September 1st of the current school year and meets Texas eligibility requirements.

Steps to Determine PK Eligibility Based on Emergent Bilingual Identification

Anytime that a student registers for PK, either prior to the first day of school, or anytime throughout the year, it is required that the student be screened to identify any and all eligibility criteria that the student meets. If a child qualifies by no other means, except by potential Emergent Bilingual identification, the following steps must be followed before the child may be enrolled:

1. administer the Home Language Survey; 
2. if a language other than English is indicated for either question, the child must be administered the English PreLAS for oral language proficiency (also administer in Spanish, if Spanish is indicated on the Home Language Survey) *
3. an LPAC meeting for emergent bilingual identification will be held. Only the LPAC has the authority to identify as an Emergent Bilingual.
4. 48 hours following the LPAC meeting, the school will communicate results and qualifications to parents/guardians.

Students have access to meals at school and can be provided free or reduced meals if eligible based on income guidelines.

Children from households whose incomes are at or below the levels shown in the appropriate table are eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Online Meal Application

If any member of the household receives Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) benefits, children are eligible for free meals.

If you believe that your student may have a learning disability or need additional assistance in school, special services may be provided. Please contact your campus counselor and assistant principal to discuss your specific concerns.
